Akyaka is a village in the province of Muğla in Turkey. It's a waterfront community on the Gulf of Gökova, an indentation of the Aegean Sea.
The nearby Gökova is a slightly larger town on the junction of the roads leading to Muğla, Marmaris, and Fethiye. Although giving the gulf its name, Gökova is a couple kilometres inland from the coastline.
The tourism industry and most travellers often use the names of these two villages interchangeably, and with just a short distance inbetween, they can be considered one and the same.
The towns lie very close to the highway connecting Mugla (north) and Marmaris (south). It's about a 20-25 min drive away from Marmaris.
Akyaka has a big stray dog population and dogs can often be seen roaming around the streets or lying alongside a sidewalk. Generally, they are harmless.
Akyaka and its main approach roads have 4G from all Turkish carriers, though the signal is patchy along the coast to Bodrum. As of March 2023, 5G has not rolled out in Turkey.
