Avellino is a city in the Campania region of Italy.
By bus from Capodichino international airport (Naples) costs €4.70. You can go also by taxi for "special price only for you" - €100 +. There are some car rentals directly on the airport.
The city is small enough to get around by foot. There are some buses but plans may be difficult to find online and maps on stops are burnt by the sun. You must buy a ticket at a stand and it's valid for a certain time span. Google maps route finder gives good approximates for walking distances and walking times around the city.
Irpinia (the "wolf land") is the green mountainous district around Avellino, with a number of medieval towns and picturesque sights. Ariano Irpino upon Tricolle (the "three hills") is the largest town, known for its ancient majolica and typical cuisine; here King Roger II the Norman held in 1140 the Assizes of Ariano, and nowadays there are several historical monuments, museums and parks.
