Homestead National Monument, 8523 W. Summer Season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) The visitor center and buildings are open daily from 8:30AM to 5PM Fall, Winter and Spring Seasons (Labor Day to Memorial Day). This monument is dedicated to the 1862 Homestead Act allowing settlers to free land in the American west provided that they maintain and improve the land. The monument was built at the first personal claim under the Homestead Act near Beatrice, Nebraska. The site offers interpretive exhibits, a tall-grass prairie and a new heritage center dedicated to the history of the Homestead Act. Free
