Chhukhung is a small village in Khumbu with a fabulous variety of additional spellings such as Chuukung and Chukhung. It is located at 4,730 metres above sea level.
Chhukhung is located at the foot of Island Peak Mountain (see Island Peak Trek)
Normally from Lukla to Chhukhung it takes seven days, including the two days of acclimatization in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche.
A popular trip is climb up the 5,546-metre Chhukung Ri, it take about 6 hours to go and come back.
There are no stores in the village, but the lodges keep a stock of necessities, such as camera film, batteries, throat lozenges, bandages etc - but remember that prices rise along with the altitude - and Chhukhung is pretty high!
There are several options depending on how many days are left before the flight back to Kathmandu. One of them is to go back to Dingboche and from there take the trail that goes up to Everest Base Camp. Or from Dinboche taking the trail that leads to Gokyo.
