Damyang (담양) is a county in South Jeolla. Damyang has beautiful bamboo forests and wide plains.
Understand
During the Joseon Dynasty, many pavilions were built to enjoy the landscapes, and poems and epics were written in the buildings. These activities were described as pungryu, which means literally "flow of wind." Jeong Cheol (1536 - 1594), a Korean poet and politician stayed and studied during his youth, and wrote his early epic, Seongsan Byeolgok in this town.
History
The name "Damyang" was first used in the Goryeo Dynasty.
When he reached Damyang, Dojo of "Shinjeungdonggukyeoji Seungram" changed its name to "Chuseong-gun" in Silla. In the 14th year of King Seongjong of Goryeo (995), Damyang was renamed to its current name and included in Naju. In the 1st year of King Fair (Jeongjong)'s accession (1398), it was promoted to Bu because it was the hometown of Queen Kim. In the 13th year of King Taejong (1413), it was established as Dohobu according to the example.
Climate
It is inland and has a relatively large temperature intersection due to the characteristics of the topography. The average annual temperature is 12.5 °C, the average in January is 1.5 °C, and the average in August is 26.5 °C. The average annual precipitation is 1,300 millimeters.
Regional characteristics
Damyang has long been the main producer of bamboo. It has beautiful natural scenery such as Juknokwon, Korea's representative tourist destination, Metasequoia Road, Gwanbangjerim, and various cultural properties such as Soswaewon, Sikyeongjeong, and Songgangjeong.
It is located in the northernmost part of Jeollanam-do and has convenient transportation networks such as Honam Expressway, Gwangju-Daegu Expressway and national roads, and eco-high-tech Damyang General Industrial Complex. Damyang is a garden that preserves nature, history, culture, and traditions well, and is promoting sustainable development through the specialization strategy of Damyang-like and ecological city policies as the main production area of the eco-friendly agricultural products.
