Edinburg is in the South Texas Plains and was originally called Chapin before its name took on a variation of the capital of Scotland. It is the county seat of Hidalgo County and also the home of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. For the tourists, there's an interesting museum and wetland reserve.
You'll find Edinburg just north of McAllen along I-69C. In fact, their boundaries are essentially coterminous.
