Fuqing (福清; Hók-chiăng in Mindong, _Fúqīng_ in Mandarin) is an industrial city within the administrative area of Fuzhou. It has a population of around half a million.
There are many buses from nearby Fuzhou to central Fuqing. The trip takes a bit over half an hour.
A few buses coming to Fuzhou from towns further South — Putian, Quanzhou or Xiamen — stop in Fuqing, but most just drop off passengers at a nearby highway exit where it is easy to grab a cab for the two km ride into town.
The local Fuqing dialect, also commonly known in Southeast Asia as Hokchia, is part of the Mindong family like the Fuzhou dialect, but is nevertheless still distinct only partially mutually intelligible. However, most locals are bilingual in their local tongue and Mandarin.
