Giglio is an island off the coast of Grosseto, Tuscany.
This small island hit the news headlines in January 2012 when the Costa Concordia struck an underwater rock just off the island's shore and then capsized. 32 people lost their lives. For a few years after the disaster, the wreckage was a local attraction and money spinner. Since then however, the remains of the ship have been salvaged and removed from the island, much to the dismay of the residents.
Giglio is encircled by gorgeous beaches.
Ansonaco (called Ansonica elsewhere in Italy) and Sangiovese are the local varieties of wine that are a must try.
