Gulgong is a township in the Central West region of the Australian state of New South Wales. Together with its neighbour Mudgee, Gulgong offers a fantastic historical heritage and a host of great small wineries.
A former gold-mining town, Gulgong was the birthplace of one of Australia's great 19th-century poets, Henry Lawson.
Gulgong is on the Castlereagh Highway, about 30 km north of Mudgee.
From Sydney, Gulgong is an easy 4 hour drive (291 km). Take the Great Western Highway through the Blue Mountains or alternatively the Bells Line of Road through Windsor. Turn off for Gulgong just past Lithgow.
