Hallsberg is a town in Närke near the demographic centre of Sweden. The town is dominated by its railway station. While the town has 8,500 inhabitants (2020), around 16,300 people live in the municipality Hallsbergs kommun (2022).
Hallsberg is largely a station community, which developed as a result of the freight line through Bergslagen and the Västra stambanan meeting here.
At the intersection of two main rail lines, Hallsberg is easy to reach by rail (see rail and bus travel in Sweden). Half-way between Stockholm and Gothenburg, the town is 1 hour 30 minutes from them with express trains.
Along Västra Storgatan south of the station there is a continuous strip of business, restaurant and service premises.
