Kaiapoi is a town just north of Christchurch on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It lies 17 km from central Christchurch, and north of the Waimakariri River. The town is a separate community, but also a commuter suburb of its city neighbour.
The motorway north from Christchurch, State Highway 1, bypasses just to the west of Kaiapoi. Access to town from the north is from the turnoff just before entering the motorway, otherwise one must travel past town to the next exit and come back from the south. From Christchurch, there are several exits, as most traffic is Christchurch bound.
Metro provides a public bus service from Christchurch on its Blue Line.
Taxi and car rental are also options for travelling the short distance from Christchurch.
Kaiapoi is home to a number of sport and recreational facilities such as the Woodford Glen Speedway, The Cure Rowing Club and is well represented in both codes of Rugby. The town is also home to a strong salmon fishing community.
There are few accommodation options in Kaiapoi, with popular options being Copper Beech B&B and Kaiapoi on Williams. Both are situated in the heart of town.
