Kanker is a town in the southern part of Chhattisgarh, India. It is the headquarters of its district. For most of the colonial period it was the seat of the administration of the eponymous princely state. It is a town that falls geographically in the transition zone between the northernmost parts of the Deccan plateau and the Mahanadi plains, surrounded by pretty hills and forests and crisis-crossed by streams that are tributaries of the river Mahanadi. The Kanker Palace Heritage, which was the residence of the ruler of Kanker and is now lived in by his descendants, has a guest house that you can stay at.
