Khatlon is the southwestern, largely lowland (by Tajikistan standards) region of Tajikistan.

Nurak Reservoir 📍 — the largest reservoir in Tajikistan
Takhti-Sangin 📍 — the probable source of the Oxus treasure now on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum and British Museum.
Ajina-Teppa (8 km southeast from the city of Kurgan-Tiube) — the site of a 7th-century Buddhist monastery that was excavated during the Soviet period. A 13-m-long statue of a reclining Buddha, now exhibited at the National Museum of Antiquities in Dushanbe was discovered at Ajina-Teppa. Unfortunately there bus or Marshrutka goes there.
