Krakal is a long stretch of beach located in Gunung Kidul Regency, south of Yogyakarta. The well-known Indrayanti beach is also here. These beaches are mainly visited by domestic day tourists.
While Parangtritis and Indrayanti are relatively well known as seaside resorts, the coastal section of Krakal with its numerous sandy beaches is still an insider tip, which attracts with white beaches, jagged rocks and high waves. Of course, you have to cut back on the facilities and the swimming facilities, since the full force of the Indian Ocean usually does not allow more than splashing around on the beaches.
Since there is no public transport to and from Krakal, it is advisable to travel by car or small motorcycle. The easiest way to find the route from Yogyakarta via Wonosari is to follow the signs straight ahead on a wide road to Wonosari, then turn right to follow the directions to Baron and just before the coastal town take the left turn to Krakal. The beaches are relatively well marked along the coastal road. From Yogyakarta to Krakal it takes around two hours to drive in good traffic conditions and a multiple of it in bad conditions. Alternatively, you can choose the route via Imogiri and Saptosari, which leads very nicely through the hilly landscape and can also be completed in two hours, but is somewhat less well signposted. An alternative would be to take the bus to Parangtritis or Wonosari and from there take a bemo or taxi to Krakal.
There is an oversupply of restaurants that run along the coastal roads of Krakal, Sundak and Indrayanti. The cuisine is traditionally Indonesian, mostly simple warungs that specifically offer fish and seafood. The following can be recommended:
Accommodation options are rather sparse compared to other areas and are primarily geared towards domestic tourism. On the eastern side of Krakal there are several losmen and cottages by the sea, in Indrayanti the accommodations are on the road inland.
Aside from the caution required when going swimming, the usual safety precautions apply.
