The Larapinta Trail is in the southern Red Centre region of the Northern Territory of Australia.
A 223 kilometre (139 mile) walking track between Alice Springs to the east and Mount Sonder to the west.
In parts the trail runs next to the MacDonnell Ranges.
Alice Springs is a good starting point.
Start at the large town of Alice Springs 📍.
Finish at Simpsons Gap 📍.
Head to Spring Gap 📍.
Finish at Mount Sonder 📍.
It is recommended to attempt this trail during the winter months of June to August.
Dangers include Dehydration, Hyperthermia and Hypothermia. The trail is well marked; however people have died by taking a wrong turn during summer months.
Venomous snakes are also a danger, although as long as you avoid walking through long grass and picking up rocks you will not likely encounter any.
