Lingayen is the capital municipality of the province. It is the birthplace of the Philippines' 12th President, Fidel V. Ramos.
The town is known to its products of fermented fishery products, like bagoong (fish paste), bagoong alamang (fermented shrimp paste),and patis (fish sauce), generally used to complement some dishes, and fruits and vegetables; kare-kare, pinakbet, singkamas (turnips) and green mangoes would be complete without bagoong. Some even appreciate bagoong with plain white rice. Locals have also learned to mix bagoong with pork to create a uniquely Filipino dish called binagoongan. Lingayen, Pangasinan , bagoong products are not only marketed in the Philippines but also exported worldwide.
The town is served regularly by Victory Liner buses from their Pasay and Cubao terminals.
