Ma'anshan (马鞍山, Mǎ'ānshān) is a beautiful modern city in the downstream of the Yangtze River. It ranks among the wealthiest cities in Anhui Province. The city only gained town status in 1956, but is now home to over 2.2 million people.
It was once famous for Ma Steel, and is now developing into a port city. The economy is relies half on industry and half on agriculture. The farmlands surrounding the city offer beautiful scenery.
It is just next to Nanjing and it just takes more than 1 hour's bus ride from Maanshan to the downtown of Nanjing.
During the Tang Dynasty, the great poet Li Bai spent the last part of his life here. Nowadays, there's a memorial in Li Bai's honour just west of town.
