Intriguingly, Mongu was nominated as the Most Beautiful City in East Africa by the African City Awards in March 2021, which suggests that travelers should take some pictures and upload them to Wikimedia projects.
Mongu was the capital of the former Kingdom of Barotseland and is home to the Lozi (or Barotse) people. The Baroteseland ruler, the "Litunga," had a dry season Summer Palace 12 km northwest at Lealui and a flood season palace on higher ground at Limulunga, 15 km north. The latter palace is next to Nayuma Museum, which is open to tourists.
Mongu is 610 km from Lusaka along the Great west road. the bus ride takes about 8 hours and cost $12/$15. There is also the M10 road from Mongu to Livingstone.
