Moro is a town and a Local Government Area north of Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria.
Moro Local Government Area has its administrative headquarters in Bode-Saadu. and the area covers the districts of Moro, Alara, Ajanaku, Arobadi, Babadubu, Bode-Saadu and many others.
In the 1970s, some indigenes of present day Moro and Asa formed an association with the name Oke Moro/Oke ASA Development Union in a bid to liberate themselves from a system that was seen as slavedom. This association was registered as a pressure group and as a socio-cultural organisation to give legal backing to activities of its members. The union was designed to fight feudualism which was anti progressive to the northern part of Ilorin Native Authority of which sizeable part of present Moro, Asa and Ilorin North belong.
Oke Moro/Oke ASA Development Union went into operation by interfering in the political activities of the state through writing of memorandas to relevant bodies in a bid to create additional local governments from the Ilorin Native Authority.
The efforts of Oke Moro/Oke ASA Development Union were blessed when the military junta headed by Gen Obasanjo review local government creation. And a panel was constituted in Kwara with Alh Haliru Dantoro as the head of the panel.
The journey of the creation of Moro was not easy owing to forces erected by Emir of Ilorin that the creation will not see the light of the day. When it was time to meet with Dantoro Panel, the then Emir of Ilorin appointed Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki, Alhaji Sanni Adebayo Lawal and Barrister Alhaji Saka Yusuf Oloru to represent Ilorin Division to say Moro and Asa should not be created. On the other side were Chief Stephen Wole-Oke leading supporters from Moro and Alhaji M.B. Baako leading the supporters from Asa. The serfs were being used to carry placards with the inscriptions "No Division, No to Creation of Moro LGA". Today, ironically, people who opposed to the creation of Moro LGA are now the beneficiaries. Overtime there has been notable progressive minded people of Ilorin extraction who do not believe in slavery or servitude.
Moro and Asa were created out of Ilorin Division in 1976.
Drinks are available in retail stores around the area
All major phone network service provider are available in Moro, if you are planning a visit to this city, you should consider having multiple SIM cards preferably for all the mobile service providers, since you can't tell which will be more stable and reliable at a time in your location during your visit. And if you will risk not having any of them, you might be better off not risking the MTN network, because, from indications, it seem to perform well than the others, though its rates may be high and its offers and services might be stringent, but you are less likely to be concerned of erratic voice and data connection compared to others. The various broadband cellular network available include 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. And unlike many other cities in the country, there is a wider coverage of the 4G network in most locations in the city.
