Newport is a small market town in Shropshire, with a history dating back to the 12th century. It is home to several educational institutions, and has housed a wide range of notable people throughout the centuries. A few of the Medieval buildings remain and the town's main attraction is its wide main street, full of 18th-century Regency and Georgian style facades. The already picturesque atmosphere is enhanced in summer with many floral displays. The town of 11,000 people (2011) has won a number of gold medals in the England in Bloom competition.
