Niuean (ko e vagahau Niuē) is the native language of Niuē. The majority of residents of the island speak English, but knowing the basics of Niuean can be useful for speaking to older members of the community.
Unlike its closest relatives Tongan and Samoan, Niuean does not contain the glottal stop (indicated by an apostrophe).
A, Ā, E, Ē, I, Ī, O, Ō, U, Ū
Diacritics (bars) indicate a longer vowel sound.
