North Canterbury is the northern part of the Canterbury region on the South Island of New Zealand. Primarily a farming district, it also has a lot to offer the traveller, with many local ventures orientated to visitors, most of which are also popular with locals.
There is an area between Hanmer Springs, Amberley and Kaikoura (all about 150 km apart) that around the year 2000 was designated by local councils as the Alpine Pacific Triangle. It has a variety of activities.
