Scanno is a village in Abruzzo.
There is a direct bus from Rome and another from Sulmona. There is also a road south towards the National Park of Abruzzo but no bus route.
Get away from the main road where the bus stops and then just wander in the narrow streets. There is a helpful regional information centre in Scanno (some English spoken) with maps and suggested walking tours of the town.
There are watersports on Lake Scanno about two kilometres on the road to Sulmona.
Santa Maria dell'Annunziata or Madonna del Lago (built in the 1700s) is built into the rock on the side of the lake, with the road running underneath.
Scanno has a traditional chocolate and almond biscuit.
