Sehlabathebe National Park is in Lesotho. Together with several national parks in South Africa it forms the UNESCO World Heritage site "Maloti Drakensberg Tranboundary World Heritage Site".
In the southeastern corner of the small mountainous country of Lesotho, the park's average elevation is above sea level. Spectacular rock formations, rock pools and waterfalls are some of the park's highlights. In addition to the mountains, several different types of grassland can be encountered in the national park.
The flora is made up of Afro-Alpine and Sub-Alpine plants and herbs. The park is home to several endangered species; different types of vulture and the Maloti Minnow.
The traditional way to get into the park is hiking or riding. The tour company Khotso (dead link: January 2023) offers riding tours from the South Africa side. If you're driving, there are two roads into the park (access by 4WD vehicles) — one from Thaba-Tseka in the middle of the country and another from the South Africa. Several South African tour companies operating in the Drakensberg area also offer tours into Sehlabathebe.
In February 2015 the Sehlabathebe Lodge opened, and the Jonathan's Lodge — which was closed down in 2010 — is being upgraded. In the nearby settlements of Sehlabathebe and Mavuka more accommodation is available.
