Seremban is the state capital of Negeri Sembilan, on the west coast of peninsular Malaysia.
Like most other cities on the West Coast of Malaysia, Seremban is populated by citizens of Malay, Chinese and Indian ethnicity (called separate "races" in Malaysia). Major languages spoken in the city are Malay (the national language) and Tamil, Cantonese (especially by the elder generation), Mandarin (spoken more by the younger generation)
Seremban is seldom regarded as a main tourist attraction. It is located between Melaka (70 km south) and Kuala Lumpur (60 km north).
Buses from other towns in Peninsular Malaysia, as well as Thailand and Singapore, stop at the "Terminal One" bus station at the town center. There are also buses from here linking other towns within Negeri Sembilan state. There is a shopping mall by the same name beside this bus station.
The nearest airport to Seremban is the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which is about 30 km north of Seremban (about 30 minutes drive away). The airport is easily accessible via the PLUS highways.
The old trunk road (Federal Route 1) links Seremban to other towns/cities in Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur to the North and Melaka to the south.
It is also accessible by major highways. The main highway is the North-South Expressway (NSE/PLUS). The nearest exit is no. 218 (Seremban). Seremban is approximately 3 hours' drive (non-stop)- 265 km from Johor Bahru and 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur, using the NSE.
Seremban is also connected to the state of Selangor via the LEKAS highway which passes through Serdang and Nilai.
Seremban is on the main railway line linking Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. The rail station is opposite the Seremban Parade on Jalan Antah. It is operated by the KTM. Another KTM train station is located at Senawang. Another train station at Tiroi can be considered too if you have personal transport, it is near the new S2 Heights area.
Driving around Seremban is quite tough during the day with constant streams of busy traffic, but not as bad as Kuala Lumpur or Penang Island due its volume. Road traffic volume increases during the weekends and public holidays as people who work in nearby major cities return. Traffic gets less busy away from the Seremban and Port Dickson toll plazas (towards Seremban 2) and Lake Gardens (Taman Tasik). Roads that should be avoided during peak hour include Jalan Tuanku Antah (main road to Senawang), Jalan Rasah (main road to Port Dickson toll plaza), Jalan Sungai Ujong (main road to Seremban toll plaza) as well as the main city centre.
Seremban is, to a certain extent, pedestrian unfriendly, due to a lack of pedestrian crossings and designated pedestrian paths especially in the Seremban town. There are also few facilities for the disabled. Going on foot is an unpopular means of getting around in Seremban.
For similar reasons, cycling is also an unpopular means of getting around. Cycling is uncomfortable can be dangerous due to the narrow road lanes. Riding bicycles is only recommended for recreational purposes. But neither of the main parks in Seremban, the Lake Gardens (in front of State Assembly building) or the City Park (behind the fire station in Seremban 2), cater to cyclists.
Online taxi services like Grab is quite popular.
Enjoy a walk at Seremban's Lake Gardens especially during sunset. The A&W fastfood restaurant is also located by the side of the Lake, to offer great lakeside view. The Lake Gardens is a favourite park for joggers and anglers alike. Well maintained pathways around the lake makes strolls a leisure. Located nearby the lake is the recreational forest in which nature lovers can enjoy the biodiversity it has to offer. Seremban is not a major tourist attraction but stopping a night at Seremban before a departure flight from KLIA is enjoyable.
Apart from shopping complexes, Seremban has designated numerous zones in the city to market locally manufactured products such as antiques, textiles, fabrics and handicrafts.
