Sidney Courthouse Sidney is a small agricultural city and the county seat of Shelby County, Ohio, lying on a flat plain called the Miami valley.

Sidney was founded as a canal city in the 1830's and serves as the seat of Shelby county. It was named after the English poet Philip Sidney. Scientist Paul Lauterbur, who won the Nobel Prize for his work on developing MRI was born and raised here.
