Silvassa (Gujarati: સેલ્વાસ; Hindi: सिलवासा) is the headquarters of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, India.
Until the end of the 19th century, Silvassa was only a small village. Silvassa started to become more important in 1885, when the Portuguese administration decided to transfer the seat of Nagar Haveli to the city. Silvassa was the capital of Dadra and Nagar Haveli until 2020, when Dadra and Nagar Haveli was converted into a district of India. It hosts many factories and industries providing significant government revenue, allowing the city to maintain a low level of taxation.
