Thame (3,750 m) is a village in Khumbu at the end of the old Tibetan trade route from Tingri via Nangpa La.
Thame is a traditional and pretty village, and as it is not on the main Lukla to Everest trail it receives less visitors than many other villages in the area. As the path from Namche is relatively flat, it is a good place to walk to on an altitude acclimatisation day.
Sherpa Tenzing Norgay's house is located near the top of the village. Thame is also home of the famous Nepalese mountaineers Ang Rita Sherpa, who climbed Everest at least 11 times, and Appa Sherpa, who climbed Everest at least 18 times, a world record.
Climb the false summit (just below 5,000 m) of Sundar Peak. The well installed path begins just northwest of the monastery.
There are a few simple lodges in the village, including the Everest Summiteer Lodge of Apa Sherpa
