Bayi (བྲག་ཡིབ་ཆུས།, 巴宜区 bāyíqǖ) is a district of Nyingchi in southwestern Tibet. It is the administrative capital of Nyingchi, and the town itself is also known as Bayizhen (八一镇, "Bayi Town").
The railway from Lhasa opened in 2021. Travel time is 3.5 hours, making this both the fastest and the most comfortable way to get here.
The railway forms part of the Sichuan–Tibet railway that will eventually extend all the way to Chengdu, but this is not expected to open before the 2030s.
Nyingchi can be accessed via public and private transportation from Lhasa's public bus station. Large buses will make the trip in nine hours for around ¥80, whereas private cars will do the trip in six hours for around ¥150. Buses and cars do not run on a set schedule, but rather leave when full. An Alien Travel Permit is required to visit the region, but there are no checkpoints on Highway 319 to Bayi or in Bayi.
Taxis will take one around the city for a flat ¥10, to the World Cypress King Park for ¥20, and to the Yalung Zangbo Canyon for ¥300 roundtrip.
