Cleveleys or Thornton-Cleveleys is a part of the Wyre local council area in Lancashire, England. It is 3 miles north of Blackpool, with which it has grown to merge along with the other Fylde Coast towns of Bispham, Lytham St Annes and Fleetwood. A popular retirement area, it is not a common travel destination of itself.
Take the A585 from J3/M55 north, following the signs to Fleetwood. or follow the coast road north from the prom in Blackpool to Cleveleys and Fleetwood, (15 minutes by car or vintage tram).
Blackpool's historic tramway runs right up the coast to Fleetwood, turning inland as it reaches Cleveleys and travelling between the carriageways of the main road.
The centre is small and easily walkable, comprising really just of Victoria Road and a couple of streets either side. The seafront, known as the Promenade, can be walked south into Bispham and Blackpool, and north to Fleetwood.
The "Thornton" part of "Thornton-Cleveleys" is a residential area with a small selection of shops, situated a couple of miles east along Victoria Road, and has nothing to excite the traveller beyond a public library.
Its rejuvenated modernistic sea defences are a pleasure to see, along with the revamped Jubilee Gardens.
The main shopping street is Victoria Road West, featuring a variety of markets, cafés, souvenir shops and ordinary shops for locals. The road runs inland from the coast, and at the seaward end are some small slot machine arcades.
More family oriented than Blackpool, there are a selection of good restaurants, and family public houses.
As of April 2022, Thornton-Cleveleys has 4G from all UK carriers. 5G has reached nearby Blackpool but doesn't yet extend north.
