Wambierzyce is a city in Lower Silesian Voivodship. Small and picturesque, it is a pilgrimage site due to its many religious attractions.
Unlike in many larger Polish cities, English is not spoken at all in Wambierzyce. Menus, signs etc. are often in German.
The hulking yellow church on the main square is always full of pilgrims. It contains the popular icon Our Lady of Wambierzyce. Starting on the church grounds, continuing across the street and finishing on a hill overlooking the town are life-sized representations of Calvary. Follow signs to the Szopka- a collection of tiny, mechanized scenes built and painted entirely by hand. These are hundreds of years old but still in working order. Follow the small dirt road to the left of Hotel Wambierzyce to the skansen, which is regionally famous. It has a petting zoo, toy museum, old farm tools exhibit, and in-house restaurant. It also provides quite cheap and comfortable accommodations.
There are not many places to eat in Wambierzyce.
Follow signs for the "skansen/agroturystyka" to the left of Hotel Wambierzyce. Cheap but comfortable, with a petting zoo and attached skansen to boot!
